Balance Billing

When a healthcare provider bills the patient for the difference between their fee and what the insurance company pays. Many payment contracts prohibit balance billing and require a provider to accept the payer’s allowed amount as payment in full for a service and not to charge the patient more than the cost-sharing amount required by the payer.
